24 Aug IDS Masterclass – Panel Guests Announced

Inclusive Sport SA is pleased to announce the panel guests for the IDS Masterclass – Active Inclusion to take place on Friday 28 August.

The panel will bring together a diverse group of individuals with a combination of lived experience and community engagement roles to discuss:

  • The challenges and peer support panel guests have encountered in their work and community over the last COVID-19 impacted months.
  • The importance of resuming sport in a COVID-19 environment.
  • Realising active inclusion – the successes and challenges to date.
  • Suggestions for service providers/community clubs on how to engage communities.
  • Views on how sport can play a role in bringing people together.
  • Plus question time for attendees to seek further insight from panel members on particular area/challenges.

Ma-Musu Kugba Nyande

Ma-Musu Kugba Nyande is a youth leader and community advocate within the African Community in South Australia. In 2018 she launched her business ‘Nyande.Bo’ to create opportunities for women of colour to network, share experiences and bond. “It’s also a space black women can feel safe and be surrounded by a community of women who understand their experience”, Ma -Musu said. Known for her work connecting other community groups with the African Community in South Australia, Ma-Musu is also working as a Project Officer at Morella Community Centre. In 2019 Ma-Musu became the youngest and first African Australian to participate and complete the Governor Leadership foundation course. 

As a daughter, sister, friend and community representative, Ma-Musu is passionate about engaging, closing the gap to ensure minority groups have a seat at the table and are represented. She’s also a strong advocate for financial literacy for women, mental health and wellness within the African community.

Toby Sutherland

Sport is an essential part of Toby’s life, with a busy schedule of playing and coaching four times a week across basketball, football, futsal and soccer. He has represented SA at National competitions in AFL, basketball and soccer. Toby strives to be the best coach he can be, achieving a level one-basketball coach accreditation, having coached basketball in the Inclusive League for the past 4 years. Toby intends to attain his Level 1 AFL Coaching accreditation in 2020.

Toby has been a member of the Inclusive Sport SA Participant Advisory Group for the least two years and is also an ‘Athlete Leader’ with Special Olympics and excited to bring his experience to the Group.

Gary Sutherland

Gary has been actively involved in inclusive sport for over twenty years as well as sport administration having held the position of President of the Woomera & District Football League and Roxby Downs Junior Basketball Association and committee member at Mitcham Football Club.

Currently, Gary is the Chair of the Inclusive Sport SA Participant Advisory Group and is also the coach of the Goodwood Saints Inclusive football team (for the past seven years) and a coach in Basketball SA’s Inclusive basketball program (for the past thirteen years). With an active son like Toby, Gary has been the coach of numerous junior and senior club teams and squads. Professionally Gary is involved in several Director and Executive roles within the Not for Profit space, based within Tertiary education sector.

Nathan Hart

Nathan has 14 years’ experience in the sport and recreation field including a strong knowledge and background in facility management within local government.

His current role as The Lights Community and Sports Centre – Programs Officer sees him coordinate/schedule the day to day operations of the centre following the centres’ vision to have a diverse and inclusive range of stakeholders using the facility. This includes, (to Nathan’s pleasure), “the creation of a wide range of programs that meet the needs of the diverse community”.

His role has provided the opportunity to create and maintain many new networks ranging from peak sporting bodies all the way through to local community groups which all have the same importance to the centres vision and purpose.

Scott Crowley

Scott has been active in ‘disability sports’ for over eighteen years. He is a former athlete of the Australian Men’s wheelchair basketball team, as well as captaining the Adelaide Thunder wheelchair basketball team in the NWBL.  Scott was also a member of the High Performance Triathlon Australia Team competing in numerous World Championships as well as the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Scott is the Co-Founder of The Good Scout Travel Co (an inclusive travel platform for those with a physical disability), a member of the Inclusive Sport SA Participant Advisory Group and currently works for the Paraplegic and Quadriplegic Association of South Australia in a Project Officer and Peer Support capacity.

He is an advocate for access and inclusion, whether it is through, sport, travel or community engagement. It is something Scott is passionate about.

The workshop will be led by the organisation’s Active Inclusion department, under the guidance of General Manager, Katrina Ranford and discuss recent organisational projects, the upcoming Connect Communities Grants and Partnerships program and more.
