Congratulations 2021 SA Senior Australian of the Year — Richard Bruggemann

Inclusive Sport SA congratulates Disability advocate, ISSA Life Member and former Board Director Professor Richard Bruggemann on being named the 2021 SA Senior Australia of the Year at last night’s awards ceremony.

Professor Bruggemann played an integral role in the history and inception of Inclusive Sport SA, who in 1987 whilst leading the Intellectual Disability Services Council, approved funding that saw the creation of our organisation’s initial iteration SASRAPID and the employment of founder Marie Little OAM.

A tireless advocate for the inclusion of people with disability, with involvement in more than 20 non-government boards during his career, including the ISSA board serving on the Committee of Management from 2006 and later as Chairperson in 2010 following the retirement of Marie Little OAM.

Professor Bruggemann was recognised for his contribution to the success of ISSA in 2013, being awarded life membership with the organisation.

Currently, he continues to advise governments on a numerous topics of concern for people with disability including legislations and rights of the disability community including the task force investigate the death of SA woman Ann Marie Smith.
