Inclusion and Diversity in Sport Conference

What is IDS?

The Inclusion and Diversity in Sport (IDS) Conference is an essential national conference for sport and recreation CEO’s, leaders and development staff with a passion and focus for inclusion and diversity.

Scheduled biannually the event presents an opportunity for those with an interest and passion for community inclusion utilising sport as the vehicle to share knowledge, engage in professional development and strengthen the relationships and resolve between sport and social equity.

IDS is an interactive and collaborative event that discusses Australia’s rich sporting culture, sport as the power to be the place that brings people together and its responsibility and accountability on and off the playing field, with last year’s speakers and special members discussing: The ‘inclusion’ path so far and steps for Sport to continues its role as one of the key social equity change agents that drives a healthy and active nation.

IDS19

IDS19 asked ‘Is Sport Doing Enough?’ – From paper to the playing field – sport’s responsibility in bringing social inclusion to life  as we questioned; ‘Should sport be the primary vehicle for social equity?’ or ‘should sport just be about playing sport?’

  • Relationships between club sport, state bodies, education & government departments as the influence leaders in community behaviours to truly ‘widen’ our club doors.
  • The challenges of Sport as a business – between high performance results and community development
  • Is Sport trying to solve too many social problems and just get back to playing and enjoying sport?
  • Are Sport organisations and athletes doing enough for the community? Is it too much for high performance/professional athletes?
  • And if sport is actively engaged in social inclusion issues, what’s the agenda? Is it to drive social equity or drive engagement and promotion?
