Logie Award Winner Craig Foster Announced as IDS19 Speaker

Inclusive Sport SA is pleased to announce keynote speaker to join the 2019 Inclusion and Diversity in Sport conference, Craig Foster.

One of the leading voices in the importance and power of sport playing a role in social cohesion and of athlete activism, former Socceroo Craig Foster is an advocate for sport taking the lead in the areas of gender equality, cultural diversity and acceptance, non-discrimination and human rights. Craig is also a Director of John Moriarty (Indigenous) Football, long term Patron and Ambassador for Football United (refugee children, UNSW), Member of the Australian Multicultural Council and Australia Committee of Human Rights Watch and wishes to see sport uphold its responsibility to a more inclusive society and world.

“It will be a pleasure to discuss the role that sport has in society, to take leadership in demonstrating underlying values of non-discrimination, equality and inclusion, areas that Australian sport can do much more,” Craig said of IDS19,

“I am very much looking forward to speaking at this year’s conference,” Craig said.

A force on the football field, many will recognise Craig from his Logie-winning broadcast career with SBS program The World Game and as a senior sports analyst for the Special Broadcasting Service.

Most recently Craig featured in current affairs as the driving force behind the recent international campaign to return Australian soccer player Hakeem Al-Araibi, who was detained in Thailand and was facing extradition to his birth nation of Bahrain despite his refugee status, back home to Melbourne.

Inclusive Sport SA GM Katrina Ranford stated, “With a wealth of knowledge and experience surrounding Australia’s high performance sport on and off the field, Craig brings multiple perspectives of the elite athlete and the powerful role of sport in fostering inclusion and diversity in society.”

Craig Foster joins emcee Shelley Ware and speakers; Kate Palmer, Dr Bridie O’Donnell and Joe Williams for IDS19 on Monday 20 May at Adelaide Oval. Second release tickets are now on sale HERE.
